Specific rules for the Friday night soccer mom league

Our Friday night soccer mom league has some special rules. These rules have been in place since last winter so everyone should know and follow them. Team captains should make these rules available to their players.

All players must be at least 25 years old. In addition, no player who has played college soccer in the past five years is eligible to play in this league. These two rules have been in place since the Soccer Dome opened. No exceptions should be requested, unless the player is almost 25 years old, is in fact a mom, AND is a beginning or intermediate level player. There are concerns about individual players who have skills that exceed the level of play intended for this league. Players may be asked not to play in this league due to advanced skill level. These individuals are welcome to play in our various other leagues.

Each player can only play on one team. The penalty for breaking this rule is a one game player suspension. No one who plays on an upper division team is eligible to substitute in any games in the lower division. Lower division players can serve as subs in upper division games when discussed and agreed to by the opposing teamÂ’s captain prior to the beginning of a game. Allowing substitutes is encouraged. However, this depends on the number of players each team has at the beginning of a match. Teams should be allowed to have 7 players (at least one sub), provided the opposing team also has at least one sub. The first option is to borrow players from the opposing team; the second option is to use players from the same division or a lower division. Goalies are not considered as substitutes in this league. A goalie can always play for any team that needs one. Teams should allow subs as long as these rules are followed, which includes the two team representatives/managers discussing the options before a game starts. Forfeits are strongly discouraged, and borrowing players within the rules is not considered cheating.

Referees can give blue cards for unsporting behavior. Examples of this are: a player who is dominating shots on goal; a player who takes what the referee considers to be excessively hard shots on goal; and players who are judged by the referee as putting repeated excessive pressure on players with clearly less skill. Repeated infractions will result in a red card as deemed appropriate by the referee.

There is a 3 goal per player rule. This means no player can score more than 3 goals in a single game. A fourth goal will not count. A free kick will be awarded to the opposing team from the spot that the goal was kicked, and the player who took the shot will be given a blue card.
